The project aims at demonstrating the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of using reclaimed Spent Foundry Sand (SFS), properly pre-processed through innovative mechanical treatments, as fine aggregate in three construction applications, specifically for embankments, Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM) and flowable mortars for injection.
Likewise, the options for high quality reutilization of treated SFS in foundry sector for core and mould making, as substitute of new sand, will be explored.
The ultimate goal of the project is to contribute to a “close to zero” landfill for the main solid waste flow in foundry.
LIFE ECO-SANDFILL is co-financed by LIFE Programme, the financial instrument for the Environment and Climate Action of the European Union.
